Vermilion Police Department responded to nine overdoses in the past nine days

Department announced it believes drastic spike in overdoses in the City would indicate a "hot batch" or "bad" narcotics circulating through the area.

CLEVELAND — The Vermilion Police Department is hoping to spread word about a recent spike in overdoses that may indicate a "hot batch" or that "bad" narcotics are circulating through the area. The police announced on their official Facebook page that this may indicate that Fentanyl is being mixed into the narcotics.

In the last nine days the Vermillion Police Department announced it has responded to nine narcotics overdoses. According to police, Narcan was administered to seven of those subjects upon arrival. 

Fortunately, all nine individuals have survived according to the Vermillion Police Department.

In order to spread awareness and protect the public, the Vermillion Police Department listed symptoms of an opioid overdose. 

Symptoms include: 

-Loss of consciousness
-Unresponsive to outside stimulus
-Awake, but unable to talk
-Breathing is very slow and shallow, erratic, or has stopped
-For lighter skinned people, the skin tone turns bluish
purple, for darker skinned people, it turns grayish or
ashen.
-Choking sounds, or a snore-like gurgling noise
(sometimes called the “death rattle”)
-Vomiting
-Body is very limp
-Face is very pale or clammy
-Fingernails and lips turn blue or purplish black
-Pulse (heartbeat) is slow, erratic, or not there at all 

The Vermillion Police Department has announced that any information to share on the distribution of narcotics, please contact the VPD Detective Bureau. The information shared will remain confidential and could save a life.
