Date uncertain for 2020 Memorial Tournament

Despite reports it would kick start the return of the PGA Tour, the Memorial Tournament said it's not sure when it will host its 2020 event.

On Monday, Golf Digest reported that the PGA Tour would resume with the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio, with no fans in attendance in the middle of June.

But according to the tournament itself, that's not necessarily the case.

Issuing a press release on Monday, the Memorial Tournament updated the status of its 2020 event. And while the tournament said it plans to hold its event at some point this year, it denied that a date has been set, as well as the report that it will be doing so without fans.

"First and foremost, the health and safety of everyone associated with the Memorial Tournament and our community will continue to be our No. 1 priority as we navigate the ongoing health crisis related to the Coronavirus pandemic," the release reads.

"This is obviously a very fluid situation that requires constant review, communication and transparency, and we – working closely with the PGA TOUR and Nationwide – are dedicated to all three aspects. As we remain focused on hosting the 45th Memorial Tournament with fans in attendance, we will carefully monitor information provided by the World Health Organization and Centers for Disease Control along with local and state government health agencies. We continue to work with the PGA TOUR to determine the ultimate scheduled date for the 2020 Memorial and look forward to providing regular status updates, including any additional protocols put in place to ensure the health and safety of all who will be on site for this year’s Tournament."

Last month, the PGA Tour temporarily suspended all future events -- including The Masters -- through May 10 due to concerns regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19). While The Masters have since been rescheduled for November, the British Open, which had been scheduled for July 16-19, has since been canceled.
