CLEVELAND — After sweeping the Syracuse Crunch, the Cleveland Monsters are one step closer to winning the coveted AHL Calder Cup.
On Wednesday night, the Monsters entered the third period trailing 3-2 against the Crunch. However, a dominating offensive performance in the third period, which included goals from Alex Whelan, Josh Dunne, Luca Del Bel Belluz and Roman Ahcan, lifted the Monsters over the Crunch 6-4.
Now, the Monsters will have a week-long break before they face the Hershey Bears in a best-of-seven Eastern Conference Finals series that begins on May 30.
The upcoming series marks the Monsters' second appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals in franchise history. The last time was in 2016 when they went on to win the Calder Cup.
