Cleveland Cavaliers: Lineup, schedule, 2023-24 preview, and betting odds

The Cavs will open their 2023-24 season at the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday, Oct, 25, at 7:30 p.m.

CLEVELAND — Believe it or not, basketball is back!

After amassing a 51-31 record in the regular season, the Cleveland Cavaliers saw a disappointing end to their 2022-23 season, falling to defeat against the Knicks in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.

The Cavs will seek redemption as they put last year's playoff performance behind them and look to make a fresh run in the 2023-24 season. The Wine and Gold begin on the road on Wednesday, Oct. 25 against the Brooklyn Nets, followed by the home opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Oct. 27.

Below is everything you need to know ahead of the season:

Cleveland Cavaliers 2023-24 lineup

Season preview

Despite an excellent regular season leading to the team's first playoff appearance without LeBron James since 1998, the bitter first-round playoff departure seemed to sting throughout the offseason.

However, the future is bright for this young Cavaliers squad. The Cavs made several offseason acquisitions that they hope will fill the gaps where needed. This year, Cleveland will look to show it is stronger than its first-round playoff loss.

After a season of building chemistry among the young core, the Cavs expect to see stronger connections between Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, and Darius Garland. Adding experienced players such as Max Strus and Georges Niang will also contribute to the offensive spark the Cavaliers lacked in the playoffs.

Last year, the Cavaliers ranked 12th in the NBA in 3-point field goal percentage. Strus and Niang will bring a much-needed spark of long distance shooting to the lineup. Throughout his career, Strus has been a 37.1% three-point shooter, while Niang is a career 40.3% shooter from long range.

Another of the main problems the Cavaliers faced in the playoff series against the Knicks was the exposure of their depth in their roster and scoring off of the bench. Additions of Niang, Ty Jerome, and Damian Jones should also help bolster their bench.
