Christmas came early for the Cleveland Browns!

The Cleveland Browns received some good news Friday afternoon in regards to quarterback Baker Mayfield, wide receiver Jarvis Landry, as well as three other key players.

Mayfield and Landry have tested out of the COVID-19 protocols and have been activated to the team’s 53- man roster; other players pulled from the reserve list include QB Case Keenum, CB A.J. Green, and DE Ifeadi Odenigbo.

Both Mayfield and Landry are expected to start for the Browns on Saturday afternoon on the road against the Green Bay Packers.

Even if Mayfield had not tested out of the protocols on Friday, his 10-day window would have expired on Saturday, allowing him to suit up for the game regardless of whether or not he was able to produce a negative test.

According to head coach Kevin Stefanski, the plan for the Browns was to start Mayfield under center regardless of whether he was activated on Friday or Saturday from the COVID-19/reserve list.

Offensive tackle Jed Wills Jr. was also believed to be activated Friday afternoon as his 10-day window expired, however, he was not included on the list of Browns players to return from the COVID-19 protocols.

Stefanski did say earlier this week that the team will have a plane standing by on Saturday for anyone that tests out of the COVID-19/reserve list or sees their 10-day window come to a close prior to kickoff against the Packers. Defensive tackle Malik McDowell could be one player who catches the Saturday flight.

Safety Nate Meadors is also eligible to be activated from the practice squad/COVID-19 list, although it is unclear if he would be in line to be elevated for Saturday’s game.

Browns officials also said Friday that defensive line coach Chris Kiffin has tested positive for COVID-19 and assistant defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett will help handle game-day responsibilities on Saturday.
