"I look forward to the journey": New Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens goes 1-on-1 with Jim Donovan

The "Voice of the Browns" chats with the coach

CLEVELAND — Fresh off of being introduced as the new head coach of the Cleveland Browns, Freddie Kitchens spoke with WKYC's Jim Donovan for a one-on-one interview at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Kitchens hasn't had a lot of time to relax since signing his contract. His priority has been firming out his coaching staff.

"It's been a fast process," he explained to Donovan. "It's been a fast first couple of days trying to get a staff together and ready to move forward. This is a crucial time in our organization right now as far as putting a staff together."

Kitchens becomes the Browns head coach after beginning the 2018 season as the running backs coach, then moving over to offensive coordinator for the final eight games. He talked with Jimmy about how important it was to bring some fun to the offense once he started calling plays.

"Players like to do things that are different. They don't like to always stay the same. Complacency in war kills, complacency in our business creates lull.  We don't ever want to be lulled to sleep with anything we do," Kitchens said. "I look forward to the journey. It's not always about the end. The journey is what was fun about those last eight weeks."

As far as what Kitchens will tell his team when he addresses them as head coach for the first time? "I don't know, you'll have to listen in," he quipped to Jimmy. "Everything we do is going to be center around trust, loyalty, and respect. That's never going to change. How you get that is going to be determined on what we do from day 1 to the time we start."
