Jarvis Landry refutes report he told Cardinals 'come get me'

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Cleveland Browns receiver Jarvis Landry refuted a report that claimed he told the Arizona Cardinals' sideline to trade for him.

On Monday, Mike Silver of the NFL Network caused a stir when he sent out a tweet claiming that Jarvis Landry told the Arizona Cardinals' sideline "come get me" -- as in, "come get me off the Cleveland Browns" -- during the Cardinals' 38-24 win over the Browns a day prior.

But according to Landry, the exchange didn't only not occur, but it's not even something he'd ever consider saying, regardless of how frustrated he might have been.

"I would never look to another team during a game -- especially that we’re losing -- and say, ‘come get me,' with a worse record than we have,'' Landry told reporters on Wednesday. "So Mike [Silver] or whoever the source was, it's all about clicks now and I get it, but at the end of the day, don't try to slander my name. If you didn't hear me say it directly, you shouldn't have to report about it.

"I would never, ever do that."

Landry's rebuke of Silver's reporting came just minutes after teammate and close friend Odell Beckham Jr. denied telling multiple teams this season "come get me" due to his own unhappiness in Cleveland. In fact, Beckham was emphatic that he'll remain with the Browns, who acquired him from the New York Giants last offseason in a blockbuster trade.

"I'm not going anywhere," Beckham said. "I'll be here. We're going to figure this thing out. It's too special to leave."

Despite Landry and Beckham's comments, not all is necessarily well in Cleveland with the 6-8 Browns on the brink of being eliminated from postseason contention heading into this weekend's matchup with the Super Bowl favorite Baltimore Ravens. But even as Cleveland prepares to close what has undeniably been a disappointing season, both of the former LSU Tigers have their sights set on a more promising 2020 campaign.

"Our relationship is a big piece and a big part of being here together," said Landry, who on Tuesday was selected to his fifth career Pro Bowl. "Now it's time to try to find a way to make it work."
