Road work begins on Route 8 in Summit County: Here are the detours you need to know

There will be detours, split lanes and ramp closures to be aware of.

AKRON, Ohio — Motorists who travel on Route 8 through Stow, Cuyahoga Falls, Hudson and Boston Heights are in for some traffic headaches for the next couple of months.

The Ohio Department of Transportation has released the details of its $58.6 million plan which is focusing on the reconstruction of Route 8 northbound between Graham Road and Route 303. 

Effective Sunday, northbound traffic is split into two separate lanes. The left lane will cross over onto Route 8 southbound, while the right lane will use the median lane of Route 8 northbound. 

For those who want to exit at Seasons Road, Steels Corners Road, or Route 303, you MUST be traveling in the right lane. Those in the left lane will not be able to access these exits. 

Also beginning on Sunday, the following ramps will be closed. 

The ramp from Graham Road to Route 8 northbound will be closed until late June for bridge reconstruction. The detour will be Graham Road, to Wyoga Lake Road, to Seasons Road, to Route 8.

The ramp from Route 8 northbound to Route 303 will be closed until late April. The detour will be Route 8 to Boston Mills Road, to Chittenden Road, to Route 303.

The ramp from Steels Corners Road to Route 8 northbound will be closed until late April. The detour will be Steels Corners Road, to Hudson Drive, to Seasons Road, to Route 8. 

The Route 8 northbound ramp to Steels Corners Road will be closed through late April. The deour will be Route 8 northbound to Seasons Road, to Hudson Drive, to Steels Corners Road.
