CLEVELAND — COVID-19 cases continue to rise around Ohio with the state reporting 11,885 new cases Monday. On this edition of the On the GO! aftershow, the morning team discussed the implications of the spike on hospitals and local school districts.

The high number reported Monday are in part due to a backlog of cases from two labs that were not able to report data for two days last week.

During the conversation, 3News' Jasmine Monroe shared how her friend, who is a nurse, impacted how she viewed the pandemic.

“I have a girlfriend, who in the beginning I was talking to her about COVID, and she’s like, ‘Just wear your mask and be good,” Jasmine shared. “And now she’s just … like, ‘I’m starting to get afraid.’ To me, to see her say something like that kind of put things into perspective for me. Like, ‘Yup, it looks like you’ll be hanging out at home by yourself.’ It’s very scary.”

Facebook viewer Deborah Frenchik added to the conversation by writing, “you can’t police personal responsibility. The reality is that there are some folks who just are not going to comply with the mask thing no matter what they are presented with. Period.”

Other members of the morning team shared how the rising numbers are beginning to impact schools.

“We found out last week that our school is going remote for two weeks and I’m sure it’s going to continue,” said morning co-anchor Dave Chudowsky. “You have some places where it’s an issue, other places where it’s not. Some schools remain in class, others don’t. It’s one of those tough difficult things.”

Viewer Jennifer Minor added, “My so(n) hasn’t been in school since March. It is taking a toll on him mentally and physically.”
