Woman carjacked at gunpoint in Cleveland Heights

Beachwood police investigating similar crime.

Police in Cleveland Heights are investigating after a woman was carjacked on Wednesday night.

According to Cleveland Heights Police Chief Annette Mecklenberg, the incident happened just after 9:00pm at 2000 Lee Road. The victim was apparently sitting in her vehicle in the parking lot when the suspect approached.  

The suspect produced a firearm and told the victim to get out of her car and to leave her cell phone inside. She complied with his orders. The suspect drove off westbound on Berkshire Road.  

The victim was not injured.

A short time later, the victim's phone was found on Berkshire Road. The suspect is described as a young male, thin and wearing a black Air Jordan hooded sweatshirt. The hood was pulled down tight around his face and he was also wearing a mask.

Officers searched the area and did not locate the suspect. Detectives are investigating.

Also on Wednesday, Beachwood police were called to a carjacking where a weapon was used.  The victim had his vehicle taken at gunpoint at a gas station on Chagrin Blvd around 5:30 a.m.

Police say it's too early to determine whether or not the carjackings are related.
