LeBron James' I PROMISE School begins transformation

The school is set to open at the end of July with third and fourth grade classes.

AKRON — It’s the start of a 7-week transformation.

More than 100 students from St. Vincent St. Mary High School spent Tuesday moving furniture out of the new site of LeBron James’ I PROMISE School on West Market Street – to make room for an updated learning experience.

The I PROMISE school will become part of the Akron Public School District, using the district’s curriculum and incorporating a “STEM, hands-on, problem-based learning focus” with the Lebron James Family Foundation’s “We Are Family” philosophy to encourage support at home and in the classroom.

WKYC’s Amani Abraham got a first look into the new classrooms, which includes LJFF artwork along the wall, locker space and a wall with a blank canvas that will allow teachers to design their own space.

The school is set to open at the end of July with third and fourth grade classes. By the year 2022, the school will be complete with first through eighth grades.
