On Thursday, Congressional-hopeful Nina Turner announced that U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) will travel to Northeast Ohio on July 24 to help get out the vote in Ohio's special election to fill the 11th Congressional District seat left by Acting Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Marcia Fudge.
“Nina Turner has shown through years of public service that she is an effective legislator who can build coalitions and get things done without sacrificing her principles. She has the courage to ask for more and the skills to deliver. I can’t wait to travel to Ohio to knock doors for Nina Turner and help turn out the vote, ” said Ocasio-Cortez.
“I look forward to working side by side with Representative Ocasio-Cortez if the voters do me the honor of sending me to Congress. She has been a leader both in the Congress and among the grassroots of our Party. We both know that delivering for everyday people means engaging people and bringing them into the political process. When people stand together we can achieve great things like Medicare for All and justice for all people,” said Turner
Turner received Ocasio-Cortez's endorsement back in March, shortly after announcing her candidacy for the open position.
"I’m proud to endorse Nina Turner for Congress in Ohio's 11th Congressional District. Nina is a bold, unapologetic progressive who has spent her entire career advocating for the working people of Northeast Ohio, and a powerful voice for progressive values and policies that will make a meaningful difference in the lives of working people across this country — like Medicare for All, a $15 minimum wage, and a Green New Deal. I need her alongside me in Congress in the fight for racial, economic, social, and environmental justice.” said Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez in March.
A former Cleveland City Council member, Turner is a lightning rod for some of the more progressive ideals within the Democratic party. Turner is also well known for her well-established relationship with U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT), an independent known for his progressive policies.
The former Ohio State Senator has also received a wealth of major endorsements, ranging from Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, Susan Sarandon, Mark Ruffalo, and Sen. Ed Markey, and more.

On June 22, Turner took part in a Democratic Primary debate held by the City Club of Cleveland, in which candidates were encouraged to talk about their beliefs regarding police reform in Cleveland, as well as in the United States.
